Walk-In Center

Peer Counseling and Referrals

The Walk-In Center is open every Saturday and Sunday evening, from 6PM to 8PM, at the LGBT Center, 208 West 13th Street, NYC (check the lobby board for room location). You talk, we listen.

Our goal, as peer counselors, is to help the client clarify his/her thoughts and feelings and to explore various options or solutions, including therapist referrals, groups and short-term counseling.

Groups

Groups

Identity House tries to provide such groups as are needed in the community. Theme-centered groups such as coming-out groups, relationship groups, and older/younger women's/men's groups have been and will be offered. Groups are led by I-House peer facilitators.

Events and Workshops

During the year, Identity House offers special events and workshops depending on the needs of the community. Recently, Identity House hosted an all-day Gay Men's conference which included ten highly interactive workshops.

Volunteer

Peer Counselor

As a peer counselor, you will have the opportunity to counsel and offer referrals to the LGBT community at our Walk-In Center, to facilitate and/or co-facilitate support groups, and to provide short-term counseling.

Therapist

All Identity House therapy referrals from the Walk-In Center are made only to Identity House member therapists. Therapists also volunteer by offering 12-week supervision groups, workshops and trainings for both I-House members and the public, co-facilitating groups and participating in Orientations and Screenings.
